........ Everyone knows there is no money in serious contemporary music and hasn’t been for a long time.

........Enterprising composers and performers of new music are used to being “on their own” financially, and their circumstances have gotten worse since the COVID-19 pandemic. These days, music schools and performing organizations have no choice but to care mainly about “what sells”. Such is the commercial side of music-making. Few of them give any thought to those of us who create music, experiment, and write about music’s history and natural evolution.

........Some of you know that for far less than the price of season tickets to the opera you can commission a major work of music – or a performance or a recording – but it’s important to know that you can help most directly by providing a musician you admire the freedom to get on with their valuable work. It could be someone in your hometown or perhaps someone working in isolation under difficult circumstances.

........Few of you will be able to support a deserving creative musician entirely or indefinitely, but several of you might be able to team up and help someone. One way to do that would be to come a Member of the ARTUR CIMIRRO BROTHERHOOD.
